Scottish New Generation Group

The Scotland New Generation Group visited Billy Bowie Special Projects Ltd on 19th June 2009 at 10.00am.

Billy Bowie Tanker Services is a well established Scottish company based in Ayrshire, providing tanker hire, drain clearance, septic tank emptying and liquid waste disposal services skills to Utilities, Industry, Government, Transportation and Domestic customers throughout the UK.

The Waste Transfer Station opened within the site at Moorfield Industrial Estate enables Billy Bowie Special Projects Ltd to accept low hazard waste from domestic and commercial customers alike. This recycling facility has the ability to accept heavy sludge's and by mixing with organic material reinstate to solid form enabling disposal at landfill.

The Scottish environment secretary Richard Lochhead officially opened the "cutting edge" vertical composting unit at the site on 15th May 2009. The £2.6 million Vertical Composting Unit (VCU) will be used to process organic commercial and industrial biowaste at Billy Bowie Special Projects' site in Kilmarnock.

The group were shown round two new buildings erected on the site, one to receive and treat the waste and the other to mature the compost, with a computer controlled system allowing various waste streams to be accepted, including food waste, animal by-products waste, and green waste, to be converted into compost.

The composting facility was developed by New Zealand organics company VCU Technology, which has UK headquarters in Berkshire.
